Speech and Language Checklist

Select your child's age from the links below then check off the features your child demonstrates consistently in everyday speech.

The 18 month old child should:

  • Follow simple instructions (eg. show me the..., give me the...)
  • Point to 3 body parts upon request (e.g. eyes, nose, mouth)
  • Try to use 10 - 15 or more words (e.g. mama) or word attempts ("ba" for ball)
  • Communicate "no"
  • Try to ask for what they want using either sounds or words
  • Take turns with another person during play routines (e.g. peek-a-boo)
  • Understand action words (e.g. jump, sleep)
